故事發生在一艘名為“契約”的殖民太空船之上，飛船上搭載了兩千名進入沉睡的殖民者，他們的目的地是遙遠的歐米伽六號行星，希望能夠在那里建立新的家園。一場意外的發生令契約號的能量收集帆遭到了破壞，船長布蘭森亦不幸身亡。作為代理船長的歐朗（比利·克魯德普 飾）帶領著驚恐而又悲傷的船員們降落到了一顆未知的神秘星球上。
